MEMPHIS, February 22, 2011— Throughout the entire year, the Grizzlies and Stax Music Academy have celebrated their 10th Anniversaries, so when they get together for Staxtacular 2011 on Friday, March 18, expect the biggest soul shakin’ party of the decade to take place at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Local lyricists to compete in Grizzlies Poetry Slam Finale Feb. 26

MEMPHIS, February 22, 2011— Young poets from 19 area high schools will match creative wits as they compete in the Memphis Grizzlies Poetry Slam Finale in Opus Restaurant at FedExForum (located on the First Tennessee Club Level) on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 2-4 p.m. Hosted by DJ Devin Steele, the finale features the winning students from individual poetry slams at Memphis City Schools. Each artist will have two minutes to recite verses of original poetry demonstrating how they “Dream Big,” the theme of this year’s competition.

Grizzlies sign Rodney Carney to a 10-day contract

MEMPHIS, February 21, 2011 – The Memphis Grizzlies have signed swingman Rodney Carney to a 10-day contract, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. A four-year star at the University of Memphis, the 6-7, 205-pound guard/forward returns to the Bluff City after averaging 5.0 points on .421 shooting (45-of-107 FG), including a career-best .459 mark from three-point range (17-of-37 3FG), in 13.2 minutes in 25 games for the Golden State Warriors earlier this season. The Warriors waived Carney on Jan. 4.

ASU honors Coach Hollins

Arizona State University honored Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins by raising the former Sun Devil great’s No. 33 jersey to the rafters at Wells Fargo Arena at its Feb. 17 game against Washington. A charter member of Arizona State’s Hall of Fame and a 2006 inductee into the Pac-10 Hall of Honor, Hollins donned the Maroon and Gold for two seasons (1973-75), earning All-American honors, before returning to ASU for two more years as an assistant coach (1985-86, 1987-88).
