About Foo Fighters Founded by drummer Dave Grohl, the rock band Foo Fighters was formed in 1994 after the disbandment of Grohl’s former group, Nirvana. The Foo Fighters blend soft musical elements with heavier ones with their sound being described as alternative and hard rock. Led by Grohl on lead vocals and guitar, the group currently consists of six members with Nate Mendel on Bass, Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett on guitar and backup vocals, Taylor Hawkins as the band’s drummer and Rami Jaffee on the keyboard.
